She has worked with individuals and families in a range of settings including those experiencing conflict and has worked across many areas of mental health.
Michelle is an experienced senior executive having been a chief executive officer for more than a decade. She has experience in managing and leading staff in the establishment of new organisations as well as leading the reform and change of existing organisations.
Most recently Michelle was WA's first Commissioner for Children and Young People for six years advising the government and Parliament on policies, law reform and services necessary for the wellbeing of children and young people.
Michelle was WA's Public Advocate for five years, has been the Senior Member of two Commonwealth Tribunals and a Director of Social Policy with the Department of Premier and Cabinet.
Her work with and support of individuals, particularly women and children in these broad settings mean that Michelle can offer a unique combination of mentoring, executive leadership and counselling and psychotherapeutic skills.
As a Social Worker and Psychotherapist, Michelle understands and has experience working with women on a range of issues including dealing with major life changes: having children, relationship difficulties, separation and divorce, and children leaving home.
As a female chief executive Michelle knows first- hand the benefits a supportive relationship based on trust can bring to assist individuals with building confidence and self esteem, identifying practical strategies to problem solve and navigate the complex work environment, create a better understanding of the work environment and achieve a better work life balance. It can also assist in helping plan the next career move.
Michelle has a particular interest in supporting women to meet some of the challenges in their relationships and workplace, who may wish to change their career or want to learn more about how to manage their career and family responsibilities.
Michelle has a positive approach to working with individuals experiencing challenges in their life and provides the opportunity to work with individuals in a confidential, safe, supportive and trusting environment.
Michelle's approach to her practice is underpinned by:
- Being Respectful
- Valuing the experience of others
- Being Committed
Michelle works with individuals in a safe relationship to develop a greater understanding of their strengths and to identify strategies that support them to reduce anxiety and stress in their lives.
