Winkie is trained as a mental health Occupational Therapist and has 30yrs clinical experience in a broad range of private & public health settings, both overseas and in Australia. She is a skilled Individual and Group therapist and provides a sensitive, caring and safe therapeutic environment that fosters hope for change. She also provides clinical supervision for counsellors and mental health care workers.
In her private practice, Winkie works with adults providing treatment for Post Trauma reactions and recovery resulting from either early life or general trauma experiences. In particular, Winkie has extensive experience in Combat or Military-related Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and its impact on the individual’s relationships, family, work and social functioning.
Winkie uses a range of therapeutic approaches including Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Interpersonal Therapy to treat anxiety, depression, sexual abuse, low self-esteem, grief and loss, life role transitions & changes, substance misuse, family of origin issues and assimilation difficulties.
Her approach is insight based and acknowledges the impact significant past or early life experiences have in shaping how we respond to current difficulties.
Winkie values the Individual’s unique strengths and best efforts at coping with their current stress. Therapy aims to strengthen the sense of self, to encourage spontaneity and flexibility in one’s thoughts and actions thus improving resilience to stress, making life richer and more meaningful.
