Dr. Barbara Hewson-Bower is a Clinical Psychologist trained in Jungian analysis; hypnosis, Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing: cognitive-behavioural, marital, family and interpersonal therapy; and, brief solution-focussed approaches. The most suitable approach for the presenting problem is discussed with the client at the end of the first assessment interview.
Barbara has worked as a psychologist since 1980 and in private practice in Cottesloe since 1990. For many years, she was responsible for training clinical psychologists in child and adult therapy skills at Murdoch University.

- Anxiety across the lifespan (including panic and post-traumatic stress disorders)

Barbara has conducted research and either published or presented on stress (child, adolescent, adult and work stress); building resilience in children and adolescents; bullying; the transition from adolescence to adulthood; hypnosis to improve the mucosal immune system; the efficacy of different relaxation techniques; marital satisfaction in long term happy relationships; therapy for complicated grief; treatment for anxious attachment; and, psychotherapy process. In 2003 she was one of 40 international experts invited to present and formulate international guidelines on school based family counselling at Oxford University.
